Rosslyn Sports Day 2010

On Friday, Tristan and Emma participated in the annual Rosslyn Academy Sport's Day. They were both on the GREEN team. After a full day of competitions, it came down to a nail biting finish with Green winning this year's events.

Although Emma enjoyed many of the track and field events, where she won the 400 m race, her highlight of the day was the pool competition where came in first place in her swimming races. Way to go Emma!

It was a photo finish!

Backyard Adventures

Mommy and Ava went on a backyard Safari this afternoon

On a safari, you need to set up base camp. The challenge is keeping the wild animals (like our dogs Henry and Reese) out!

Along the way they discovered this Scarab

According to the internet, it is called a Pachnoda Sinuata Flaviventris a type of African flower beetle. There are over 30,000 species of scarabs in the world. Over the past few years we have come across many beetles with an incredible variety of colours and designs. Their unique patterns look as if they have been hand painted. In Eastleigh, we've seen ones that look like they are wrapped in the Kenyan flag. This particular type of beetle has a tail end that resembles an attacking creature with a mouth full of teeth. You never know what you'll see on a safari!

Eclipse

Last Friday, January 15, Kenya witnessed a beautiful solar eclipse at around 8:30 in the morning. Friends sent us these photos that we wanted to share with you.

January has been a crazy month so far and we haven't had much of a chance to keep up with our blog. We are so thankful for everyone who has been following along with us.

"Then shall the righteous shine forth
as the sun in the kingdom of their Father."

Back to School 2010

Last Wednesday, Ava returned to school at Potter House near our home in Nairobi. Tristan and Emma started their second semester at Rosslyn Academy today, after a good holiday of playing at home and enjoying time as a family. This past weekend we spent a wonderful night out at the Acacia camp where our friends the Bannister's live. We had a great time together with them and our friends the Soucey's who are here from Rwanda for The Sharing Way training course. Everyone is back at the training this week.

We are experiencing some incredible down pours of rain lately. Since December 18th, it has rained at least once every day. On Saturday night, a torrent of rain fell that toppled trees and flooded many areas. The Acacia camp that we had stayed at the night before was a wash and the ranch now has lake to help with the animals until the next rainy season. God is good!

Thank you all so much for keeping us in your prayers. Please continue to uphold the ministry in Eastleigh and the work of Canadian Baptist Ministries throughout Africa.

Ava was very excited to be back to the fun of school...

Training with TSW

Kathleen Soucey, Erica Kenny, and Tim Bannister
at The Sharing Way DIM training

We joined our Canadian Baptist team mates and national colleagues today for the start of a two weeks of training in financial management, micro credit and food security. It was especially great to see our team mates Tim and Diane Bannister who returned from their Canadian home assignment this past weekend.

2010

Happy New Year from the five Kennys!

We celebrated New Year's Eve at home this year with a friend from Eastleigh, however despite everyone's best efforts only Aaron, Erica and Tristan were able to stay awake until midnight. The three of us stood in the backyard and fired off a few roman candles as we listened to the countdowns, singing and fire crackers sounding throughout our neighbourhood.

2009 was an incredible year of great highs and lows.

Even within the last week we've shared such an intense swing of emotions from the joy of Christmas to the sadness of the funeral for our dear friend Sam Mutisya who died just before Christmas after a long and hard battle with stomach cancer. On December 30th, we gathered with our CBM colleagues in attending the day of prayers, tributes and burial at the Mutisya home near Machakos. Over a thousand people attended the funeral that was rich with stories and songs from Sam's family, friends, and the various churches with whom he has served over his career. Sam was an incredible man of faith and humility. Over the past eight years he has served with The Sharing Way, CBM's relief and development arm with passion and integrity. In our own personal life, Sam stood for us before the Kenyan high court as Ava's guardian ad litum during our adoption proceedings. We will miss his constant smile and gentle words of wisdom.

Over the coming few weeks we will be working through a number of ministry challenges and we would appreciate your prayers. Thank you so much for upholding our family and the work of CBM .
