Scenes from the South Shore

On Monday and Tuesday, we were hosted by the Shag Harbour and Woods Harbour Baptist Churches in Shelburne County, Nova Scotia. We were shown around the community by our gracious host Leona Mae Devine and enjoyed a wonderful day at the cottage of her sister Darlene and brother-in-law Gregory.

Along with the beauty of the coast and view of Cape Sable Island, Shag Harbour is well known for the 1967 UFO incident that brought much media attention to the fishing community. On October 4, 1967, multiple people witnessed a chain of lights in the sky that seemed to crash into the ocean in Shag Harbour. Thinking a airplane had crashed, the RCMP responded quickly assembling a rescue effort. On shore, people saw a light bobbing on the surface of the water that soon went out. Nothing was found in the rescue but local fisherman and coast guard were shocked by a thick yellow foam that covered the water. Government agencies ruled out a plane crash and the unknown object was officially classified as a "UFO". What was this strange object that crashed into the ocean? Maybe you might want to come to Shag Harbour yourself and visit the local "UFO incident museum" and come up with a theory of your own!
