Spiritual Emphasis Week

This week is Rosslyn's annual SEW for the students in elementary school. The kids are asking BIG questions and discovering BIG answers as they "Meet Up with Jesus" in this Gospel Light Vacation Bible School adventure.

Each afternoon, teachers, high school students and parent volunteers are taking part in skits, songs, stories, crafts and activities. Aaron is the theme speaker again this year at "Bonfire Beach". It has been a fun week!

Leaping Lizards!

March has started out as a busy month with several visitors and ministry commitments. We are excited to have Sam and Cindy Chaise, the new general secretary of Canadian Baptist Ministries, visiting Kenya this week with our colleague Sharlene Craig. Today we spent the afternoon connecting with Sharlene.

This coming week, we'll participate in a two day conference with our CBM colleagues, including the national and partner staff. Please remember the Chaises and Sharlene especially as they fit so much into this brief visit.

This week also provided us time to connect with our friend Lisa Davis, who joined the women of Noor Creations in Eastleigh, as part of her research for her masters in Art Education. Lisa is interested in learning about how artistic expression can contribute to building sustainable livelihoods.

Spiritual Emphasis Week

Today was also the close of this year's spiritual emphasis week. It has been a fun time of connecting with the elementary children at Rosslyn as they journeyed to Eygpt to learn about God's gifts of hope, ability, wisdom, forgiveness and family.

Today was the start of the annual elementary school spiritual emphasis week at Rosslyn Academy. Aaron is back on stage for the lunch time play, this year telling the story of Joseph from prison to Pharaoh's Court.

All week long, the children are learning about how God is Our Hope through both the lows and highs of life. It is like a week at summer camp, as the students, teachers and parent volunteers participate in activities, games, crafts, songs and skits.

The grumpy Roman guard Brutus (Paul Carline) and the apostle Paul (Aaron) in Rosslyn Academy's Elementary Spiritual Emphasis Week.

"Paul and the Underground Church" is this year's Spiritual Emphasis Week theme at Rosslyn Academy. Each afternoon the children will journey back in time to meet Paul and the early Christians in Rome as they learn about the faith of the early Church.

The children were very excited to begin the week long adventure. As part of the theme, they will be meeting in a "cave" church, making ancient Roman crafts, and sampling food in the outdoor Roman market.


Over the lunch hour Aaron and Paul Carline share a skit where the students gather to meet with them in prison.

Paul did a fantastic job today playing the gruff Roman guard who endured these strange time travelling visitors from strange parts of the world like "Can Ee Ha!", "Am Eric Ha!" and "Can Nad Ha!" These ancient men have never heard of such exotic lands.

The real message of today was that "God's gift is love". Paul shared part of a letter he was writing to the followers of Jesus secretly living in Rome for the kids to deliver. They would need to be careful as they ventured out into the city to find the underground church.

After all, the message of Jesus is dangerous. Faith in Him can be costly. Following Jesus may even lead us into chains. But no matter the cost, we can trust in God's promise that He is with us always.
