Sam and Cindy Chaise

Sam and Cindy Chaise

This evening, we had a good-bye dinner with the Godwin family and Sam & Cindy Chaise before they leave tomorrow for their work in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda. We have had a great afternoon in Eastleigh meeting together with members of the Iftin Women's Empowerment Project team. Please keep the Chaises in your prayers as they make this their first official field visits with Sam as Canadian Baptist Ministries' general secretary. Once they return to Canada, they will be travelling to the East coast to visit with churches in the Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches.

Prayer Requests:

Please continue to uphold our CBM team in prayer as we move together with our national partners in ministry. We have had some very encouraging meetings this week with the ACC&S executive and their development department. Seeing God at work in communities affected by HIV & AIDS, and the role of local churches in mobilizing and empowering communities, has been faith strengthening. We've also had some great break throughs in other dimensions of the Guardians of Hope, that have been answers to prayers.

Please remember the Africa Brotherhood Church's new Guardians of Hope project officer, Mercy Mwikali, who began serving with the GOH on the first of March. Mercy comes to the GOH with a wide experience in development in Kenya and a bachelor diploma in community development. We pray for Mercy, Triza Mulandi and the whole ABC development team as they seek to strengthen the ministry of local churches throughout the ABC.

Personally, we would ask for your prayers as Erica's mom, Mary, returns to Canada this Thursday. We give thanks for her time here and pray especially for her health, not only during the trip back, but as she settles into life at home.

Thank you so much for keeping our family and this ministry in your prayers!

Conversations

As we prepare for our return to Kenya, we stopped for a brief interview with our friend Andrew Myers, communication manager for the Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches, to discuss our experiences on home assignment and changing roles within Canadian Baptist Ministries. We want to share our appreciation to Andrew for allowing us to share this here on our blog.

This weekend we are participating in the annual Atlantic Baptist Women's convention at Crandall University, Moncton. We are joining our CBM team mate Linda Naves and several other missionaries like Dan & Melody Grove and Diane Friesen, who are also taking part in this years gathering. The theme speaker for the convention is Brenda Mann, the executive director of Canadian Baptist Women of Ontario and Quebec. Diane's opening presentation "Surrender" set the tone for a great weekend.

2010 is also the 75th Anniversary of Canadian Baptist Women. Over the past decades, CBW has worked to promote a sense of unity among Baptist Women across Canada and provide opportunity for Baptist Women in mission and ministry to partner with women globally.

Rev. Cheryl Ann Beals introducing the conference theme:

"Together, as Atlantic Baptist Women, we are going to learn how to SOAR! We will learn to surrender our lives and circumstances to God. We will learn to lovingly obey His word. We will learn to intimately abide in Jesus and how to rise by the power of the Holy Spirit above our circumstances. We are going to SOAR for God's glory!"

We were delighted to meet our colleague Tim Bannister's sister, Marilyn Rogers, and mother, Myrtle Bannister, during the evening ice cream social.

Springforth

Springforth 2010
Moncton, New Brunswick

This weekend, we took part in Springforth the largest Christian Youth Conference in Atlantic Canada. The highschool section took place at Crandall University where worship was lead by the band Atlantic who were fantastic. The main sessions featured guest speaker Dave Currie who was dynamic as he challenged us in being "Rooted" in our faith.

We had a wonderful time connecting with youth from youth groups across the maritime provinces and sharing about opportunities for experiencing God in short term missions.

Each year Springforth takes an offering to support a ministry: Part of this year's highschool offering is being used to sponsor children for primary school in Eastleigh through The Sharing Way.
