Unfortunately, we've hit our limit of space in the free podbean account, so we have had to start deleting older episodes of the podcast. Moving forward, we'll only keep the most current podcasts on the podbean site. So it is a good idea to download the audio files.

Both Thomas and Jen returned to Canada on Monday evening, after volunteering with us in Eastleigh with the Iftin Women's Empowerment Program for the month of May.

Our May Podcast is up on the podbean site -- this month the podcast features an interview with Kampundu Tedy, a Guardian of Hope living in a rural village of Rwanda. Kampundu shares part of her story of becoming a guardian for five AIDS who were without a home. Her youngest adopted son, Jean, who was left for dead in the forrest when she rescued him, is now a happy and thriving young boy.

Through the Guardians of Hope, Kampundu and her family have experienced support and care from a loving Christian community. They have received assistance for schooling and micro loans that have enabled their family to feed themselves.

April 2011 Podcast

This past week was busy, with Erica working in the city and Aaron attending a course in Mitaboni with Carey Theological College. We are back to our regular routines this week and, as promised, we have a new podcast this month taken from some of the audio content we recorded earlier in the year.

This month's podcast takes us back to January during our time with Patricia Card, Henry Mwangi and Patrick Miana. Early one Tuesday morning, we met together to visit Guardians of Hope beneficiaries living in slums and informal settlements around Nairobi. Before we set out, we stopped for coffee and shared a brief conversation about how the Guardians of Hope started in Kenya and the impact it has had upon the African Christian Church and Schools.

In Prayer

It was very interesting to hear their perspective on what led to the formation of the Guardians and of the successes and ongoing challenges that the ministry encounters. Please be keeping the ACC&S in your prayers as it works to proclaim and embody the good news of faith in Christ throughout Kenya. We will be meeting with the ACC&S Guardians of Hope leadership early next month as we work through forming a strategic plan for the next chapter of the GOH program. Please remember us during this time of assessment and planning.

Podcasting Conversations from Africa

After a long break (our last podcast was posted back in November 2010), we are happy share that we have a new audio podcast up and ready. This month's post features a brief conversation with Bishop Timothy Ndambuki of the Africa Brotherhood Church (ABC). We hope you have a chance to hear Bishop Ndambuki share a bit of the history and growth of the ABC as it has moved cross culturally throughout Eastern and Central Africa.

Self Help Groups -- Eastleigh

This week the Iftin Women's Empowerment Program is conducting three days of monitoring and evaluation on the state of the Women's Self Help Group project in Eastleigh. Our program officer and some of the community facilitators just completed a week of training with the Kenyan National Self Help Program in Kakamega in Kenya's Western province, near Uganda. We are interested in finding ways to strengthen the existing eight groups and to identify ways of building sustainable livelihoods for the members.

On Monday, we met with Laura and during our meeting Aaron interviewed her about the concept and role of the self help group approach with the women's empowerment program. It was interesting to hear Laura's perspective on the importance of this approach and on how we can be praying for it and the over all program.

Today, we are meeting with our team leader, Colin Godwin, as we think through the direction of urban muslim outreach in Nairobi. Please pray for us as we discern the best use of our resources in following God's leading. We would also appreciate your prayers as we take a long journey tomorrow to Kangema, in Kenya's Central highlands, to meet with the Guardians of Hope leadership there.

During our time of visiting with churches and friends in Canada, many people asked us about providing more ways to connect with the stories and lives of people benefiting from the ministry that we are a part of in Africa. In addition to the photos and short posts here on our blog, we have been experimenting with a regular audio update, or podcast. Each podcast is a five to ten minute recording that you can download off the Internet or listen to directly online. Through the podcast, we are able to share audio interviews, updates and prayer requests that you can listen to and share with others. If you visit our blog regularly, no doubt you've noticed a few "podcast" related posts over the past month. We hope this will be something that people will enjoy and feel free to share with others.

If you use iTunes on your computer, you can find us in the free podcast section in the iTunes Store where you can click on “subscribe” for automatic updates for your iPod or mp3player. Along with our podcast, you'll find thousands of great podcasters worth listening to.

We have also begun to post a video podcast that you can watch online, or download and share with others. The size of video podcasts are too large for us to host on our podbean site, so for now we are simply uploading them to a public dropbox site that you can access through links provided here on the blog. Hopefully we'll find a simpler way for people to subscribe to the video podcasts in the near future.

Video Podcast

Access to clean water is a major global concern. In the community of Eastleigh, Canadian Baptists have been working together through The Sharing Way in partnership with the Eastleigh Community Centre to provide clean drinking water to Somali and Oromo refugee families. In this, our first video podcast, we sit down with Vincent Eyako, our Eastleigh Community Centre colleague who heads up the Eastleigh water filtration project, to discuss the importance of this project upon the people of this community.
