Prayer Update: CBM Africa

Rev. Saphano and Josephine Riak Chol

Praying for Peace in South Sudan

Today is the deadline for South Sudan's president Salva Kiir to avoid UN sanctions by signing the August peace deal with rebel leader Riek Machar. The 20 month civil war in South Sudan has displaced 2.2 million people, destroyed homes, and taken thousands of lives. Atrocities against civilians have been rampant. The entire country is broken.

Government representatives are saying that in the next few hours President Kiir will sign the power sharing treaty and call for an end to the fighting. In the refugee camp of Kakuma, more than eighty thousand displaced South Sudanese are praying and listening to their radios. Unless their political leaders can make this step of humility and goodwill, there will be no end in sight to the crisis in their young country.

Please pray for peace in South Sudan. The signing of a peace treaty will be the first step in a long journey to reconciliation and restoration.

We also pray for our friends within the Faith Evangelical Baptist Churches. As our Canadian Baptist Ministries' partners, they are serving their communities through integral mission by promoting peace, providing emergency relief, and tackling issues of food insecurity. We pray for their witness as they desire to show the love and hope of Christ with their neighbours.

Praying for CBM African Partnerships

Currently, our CBM African partners are looking ahead to 2016, evaluating their current programs and beginning to form the project proposals that will shape next year's ministries. We are so thankful for our team of CBM colleagues here in Africa and back in Canada who are accompanying our partners through this important process.

Please pray for wisdom and discernment as together we seek God's leading in evaluating and designing our shared work.

We are very thankful for the discipline of reflection and dialogue that goes into our annual planning cycle. We pray with our partners that we will be good stewards of the resources of people, facilities and funding entrusted to the Church.

Praying for CBM

Presently, the board of Canadian Baptist Ministries is in the process of selecting our new executive director. We pray for our board president Malcolm Card and all of the search committee as they under take this vital task.

We are also praying for several new members to the CBM team including Adrian Gardner, who will be joining our Mississauga team, and our great friends Michael and Melanie Waddell, who will be joining as CBM global field staff with their children.

We praise God for all that he is doing throughout the Church in Canada and throughout the world!
