Year's End

Erica and Zahra congratulating our Iftin youth leaders Tunis and Zahra Shariff on an excellent job leading the weekly Happy Club for refugee children.

Today we celebrated the end of the 2009 with the Iftin English literacy classes: about 50 women braved the heavy rains and muddy streets to come to the Eastleigh Community Centre before beginning their Christmas break. As part of the party, Iftin thanked the many outstanding volunteers from within their group who had contributed to the success of the past year.

But this isn't quite the end of the year. About 60 women from the literacy classes will be participating in next weeks graduation ceremony to be held on December 11th. In preparation for the event, the Iftin ladies are rehearsing several Somali and Oromo songs that they will be performing. We are looking forward to a great day together!

Of course you can not have an Iftin party without dancing

Erica thanking Zahra for the great work she did this past year not only within the English program, but in the formation of Self Help Groups.
